Windows 10: Windows Media player codecs conundrum

Hello, I have the codecs for my windows media player. But need more info on the file codecs.My music was downloaded from an old flash drive that was originally from Windows 7.When I tried to load it into Windows 10, half of the contents cannot be played.A pop up states ""Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Via Properties, I checked one song with WMA File .wma Plays with Grove app and Windows media.Yet another song WMA File .wma doesn't play on either. whoa...what?I ha

windows media player - codec error

The video is an AVHDC in a MTS format and Windows Media Player is giving an error that the codecs are not available. I have followed the help steps until it says to click the box in tools>options>player. It says to click the box for however, my windows media
player does not have that box available to click.

I don't want to have to download the codecs myself. Has anyone else resolved this problem in another way?

 

Faulty Windows Media Player

Windows Mesdis Player developed a fault (Played jerky an missed bits) so I down loaded Media Player 10.

It's no better. Any suggestions (I run Windows 98)
