Windows Media Player Does not show subtitles

I know I can download codecs for this (which I have) or just use VLC, but how do you get Windows Media Player to show the subtitles of mkv files? Doing a right click and turning on Subtitles does nothing. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you want to test this, just download any anime episode in mkv.

    :)

  2. Can I display MP4 Subtitles using any standard Windows 10 player?

Ok, this is sort of ridiculous. I have MP4 files that have subtitles in the file (not an external subtitle file). And my Android players all work fine with them. But the Windows 10 players do not display them at all. Am I missing something basic here,
or did Microsoft really ship a product that is as lame as it appears?

ps. No, playing it in Windows Media Player and right clicking on the screen to "show subtitles if available" does nothing.

  3. Windows 10 - Subtitles in Recorded TV WTV files.

I used Windows 7 Media Center to record a few thousands of DVB-T TV shows. Many of these show include Subtitles that can only be seen when played back in Media Center.

After upgrade to Windows 10 I can no longer see te Subtitles. Windows Media Player has some settings of Subtiles but no matter how the settings are adjusted I can not see the subtitles.

I have tried many other playerers but none could show the subtitles.

I have reverted to WIndows 7 for now.

Are there somebody out there that can help with this problem ?

    Codec information summary:

    Sound:

    MPEG ACC Audio (mp4a)

    Subtitles:

    DVB Subtitles (dvbs)

    Language Danish

    Video:

    H264-MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (h264)

    Thank You

Windows Media Player Does not show subtitles

I just went through the headache of trying to fix this. Essentially, WMP uses something called Media Foundation as a way to determine the codecs used in a video. K-Lite Codec pack has a setting you can tweak that disables the WMP stock codec registry (or whatever it is) and you can then use whatever you install. Slightly annoying, but at the same time it's nice that they don't want you to use unapproved codecs or filters. Still, I have things a certain way and this kinda messed with them when I moved up to Win 10.
