  1. Windows Media Player Instantly Renaming Music Tracks on Saving Them

I'm using Windows Media Player to rip my CD's to FLAC. A few weeks ago, I noticed that CD's I was ripping were not appearing in the library. What I've found is happening is the following:

    a) I put in the CD and Media Player recognises it and downloads the metadata. Example. I put in Barbra Streisand The Classic Christmas Album today and it was correctly shown in Media Player.

    b) I've set the output folder to c:\rips.

    c) I click on RIP CD.

    d) In the c:\rips folder, media player creates a "Barbra Streisand" folder and inside it a "The Classic Christmas Album" sub folder.

    e) I browse to c:\rips\barbra Streisand\The Classic Christmas Album Folder and inside it is the first track being ripped. The file name is;

    "The Classic Christmas Album-01-Jingle Bells--Barbra Streisand-1411kbps".

    f) A few seconds later track 1 disappears. This coincides with the rip completing. The file for track 2 then appears. When it starts recording track 3, track 2 disappears, etc. This repeats until the album has completed ripping.

    g) The \barbra Streisand\The Classic Christmas Album Folder folder path is then automatically deleted.

    g) I go up to the c:\rips folder. A new folder has been created called, "Sepulchral Silence". Inside this is "Skiddaw - EP" and inside this are my missing tracks. The first track in the folder is labelled as:

    Skiddaw - EP-01-Skiddaw Forest (By Skiddaw)-Sepulchral Silence-855kbps.flac

As the file name structure is identical to the one I specified in Media Player, I assume that it is media player renaming the file.

    h) The meta data on the file is the meta data for the album I ripped but it is no longer correct. In this example the album artist is correct but the album name has been truncated to; "The Classic Christmas Albu".

    I) In Media Player the album appears under the artist "Sepulchral Silence", even though the metadata on the file says the album artist is "Barbra Streisand", The album is called "Skiddaw-EP" within media player whilst in the file the metadata says it is "The Classic Christmas Albu".

The EP it is showing metadata for must only have 4 tracks because from track 5 onwards, the track name is the correct one but the album name and artist are stil lthe incorrect ones.

I was originally ripping straight to my one drive but I thought that it might be the synch renaming the file. Tonight I created the c:\rips folder mentioned above to remove one drive from the equation and the error continues.

Does anyone know why i'm suddenly getting these issues and how to fix them?

One observation is that for a long while now when I put in a CD if it doesn't find the right metadata, if I right click a CD track and click on "Find Album Information" it gives a HTTP 400 error message saying it cannot find the store page. At the top of the page it says musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com. I've tried looking into that address but i've not found any information about it. I get the feeling that this is the wrong address but i'm not sure where to fix it.

    :)

    Windows Media Player.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you to check the ‘Windows Media Player’ settings from the steps below.

    1. Open the ‘Windows Media Player’, in the player ‘Library’, click on ‘Organize’.
    2. Select ‘Options’, this will open the ‘Options’ window for the ‘Windows Media Player’.
    3. Click on the ‘Library’ tab, please confirm if the ‘Retrieve additional information from the Internet’ is checked, check the options ‘Rename music files using rip music settings’ and ‘Rearrange music in rip
music folder, using rip music settings’ under ‘Automatic media information updates for files’. Click on ‘Apply’.
    4. Click on the ‘Player’ tab and check the option ‘Connect to the Internet’. Click on apply.
    5. Restart the ‘Windows Media Player’ and check if it works out for you.
    Hope it helps.

Windows Media Player - Skip Track Shortcut?

    Hi

My keyboard only has play and stop hotkeys, using Windows Media Player is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut to skip track, even if media player isn't the primary window?

    Thanks
