  1. Windows media player is very slow at adding folders to the Video library "Indexing libraries"

Hello, so I'm trying to move my music over to the Windows 11 Media Player. I like the layout and design, but it's proving really troublesome to move my files over to it. If I remove all the files and only add a single folder, it goes smoothly and quickly. The folder gets added to the "Video library" and from there, I can create a playlist and move the files onto it, but once I start adding more folders, it starts slowing down considerably. Even with just 10 folders added to "Video library", it takes forever to add more. After adding a new folder, it'll say "Indexing libraries", and it stays li

  2. Libraries?? What's the difference between Windows Media Player Libraries and File Explorer Libraries?

    Hi Community,

I am trying to find out

1: how to use Windows 10 File Explorer libraries?

    2: what libraries are for?

3: how Windows 10 File Explorer libraries are different or similar to Windows Media Player libraries?

4: Where does Windows Media Player get its media database from?

I see Libraries listed in File Explorer and the subfolders Music, Pictures, Videos.

I have found out how to add folders to them. (by right clicking the folder I want to add and clicking 'include in library', then choose the appropriate library for the file type).

When I open Windows Media Player, I can choose Music, Pictures or Video from the list on the left of the player. However, the files in Windows Media Player Video Library are not the same ones as the files I've added to the File Explorer Video Library.

    Any helpful advice appreciated.

  3. Windows 11 Media Player - Sort Music by Folders unavailable but is available for video library?

Hi, and thanks for reaching out. My name is Saeid. I'll be happy to help you out today. You can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulty with the Windows 11 Media Player.

To sort your music library by folders in the Media Player, you can follow these steps:

    1-Open Windows Media Player.

2-Click on the "Music" tab to access your music library.

3-Click on the "Library" button in the top-left corner of the Media Player window.

4-Select "Manage libraries" from the drop-down menu.

5-Click on "Music" in the list of library locations.

    6-Click the "Modify" button.

7-Check the box next to "Add folders to library".

    8-Click the "OK" button.

9-Browse to the folder you want to add and select it.

10-Repeat steps 7-9 for any additional folders you want to add.

11-Click the "OK" button to close the "Music Library Locations" window.

12-Click the "Folders" button in the top-right corner of the Media Player window.

13-Select "By folder" from the drop-down menu.

Once you have completed these steps, your music library should be sorted by folders.

As for the error you're receiving when trying to play videos, error code 0x800700EA typically indicates that there is an issue with the video driver or graphics card. I would suggest checking for updates for your video driver or graphics card and installing any available updates.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.

  4. Windows media player is very slow at adding folders to the Video library "Indexing libraries"

Windows Media Player no longer adding certain videos to library

I still use Windows Media Player and after moving files to a new drive, I had to add some folders back to WMP. Expected behavior: WMP adds files in those folders to the library. Observed behavior: it does not add all of them.

This used to work before with the same files (?!), I don't get it why it is not recognizing certain files anymore. Funny thing is, it plays the files just fine (most of them mp4), it just will not add them to the library.

I tried troubleshooting via built-in tool. Manually deleted library database file. "Uninstalled" WMP and added it again, no luck.

Is MS finally tired of me still using WMP? Unfortunately, there are no good alternatives. Software that will play audio and video and have a good library component as well (with 16:9 thumbnails for videos).

Does anyone have any ideas? About the issue and alternatives.

Okay, I've done some more investigating and it turns out the missing files are being added to WMP, but not as videos. They are being added to the category Other media, which I wasn't even displaying.

I cannot move the files to the other library. If I compare properties of normal video files and these other media files, I see that the latter category shows the following:

I cannot seem to edit that field, which says "video" for the normal files. *Confused
