Windows Media Player Legacy - Manually Adding Album Art

The option to edit album which previously provided the ability of adding album art along other properties such as year, genre, and track order is not showing in Windows Media Player Legacy. Since I have a significant collection of .wav music files / albums I still want to use Media Player Legacy. This option was previously available, and it is available in Media Player. The OS is Windows 11.

  2. Why has Windows Media Player Legacy started duplicating album art?

Windows Media Player Legacy has started fetching multiple album art files for a music album. The jpg files look the same but are stored as separate OS level hidden files! Unlike iTunes which keeps fetched media art files in a separate folder, Windows Media Player Legacy stores the media art files in the same folder as the actual music files which unnecessarily bloats file count and makes keeping backups of the music folder in sync difficult.

Either these hidden OS files capturing media art shouldn't show up in folder file count/size, or they should be kept in a separate dedicated folder like iTunes does, or they shouldn't be duplicated per album.

  3. No album art in Windows Media player mobile 10

This is from Windows Media Player Mobile FAQ (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/windowsmobile/faq.aspx)

It is an old FAQ (May 2005) but I believe it offers some insight worth looking at.

5.6 Why isn't album art displayed when I play a song? There are several reasons why album art might not be displayed when you play on song on your device. In order for album art to be displayed:

    • The album art must appear when you play the file on the desktop version of Windows Media Player. If the desktop Player cannot display the album art, then the album art cannot be copied to your device.

    • You must use the Sync feature in the desktop version of Windows Media Player 10 to copy songs to your device. This ensures that the album art on your desktop computer is copied to the correct location on your device.

    • Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Pocket PC or Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Smartphone must be installed on your device. Only these versions can display album art.

In some cases, album art might not be displayed correctly if the art is embedded in the file (for example, by using the Advanced Tag Editor in the desktop version of Windows Media Player).
