  1. Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service in Group Policy

I am trying to find out what admx has Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service configuration for Group Policy. According to CIS 5.36 L1 Ensure 'Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service WMPNetworkSvc' is set to 'Disabled' or 'Not Installed', this needs to be configured but I don't have this in Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\System Services\Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service in my GPME.

    :)

Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

    Hi AshGivargis,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Could you please help me with the below questions:

    1. Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
    2. Which version of Windows you are using? (To check, type: winver in start menu and hit enter.)
    3. What happens when you try to access Windows Media player? Do you have any error message?

Windows Media Player, shares Windows Media Player libraries to other networked players and media devices using universal plug and play. If this service is not running, there might be issues while using this feature.

I would suggest you to follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows
      and R
      key together on your Keyboard.
    2. Type services.msc and hit enter.
    3. Search for Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
      and Windows search.
    4. Double click on the service and select Automatic under start up.
    5. Click on Start, Apply and Ok.
    6. Restart the computer and check if is working now.

    Hope it helps.

Windows 7 - Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

Hello Everyone, just wondering what your thoughts are on this process i just noticed that has been eating up lots of CPU time for no reason. Its called the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, i certainly do not use WMP (who does?) especially for sharing my libraries across the network.

I am about to disable the service completely and see if that will make it stop. Just seems weird that this would be running when i never even use WMP. Anyone?*Bang Head :banghead:
