Windows Media Player: Subtitles Don't Work

I have an mp4 with a subtitle stream built in not burned in, which plays perfectly in every media player except windows media player. One simply goes to the subtitles menu, wherever that is, and selects the subtitle track to include.Windows media player "old" with the blue interface, and the orange on blue logo doesn't show them, even if "on if available" is selected.Windows media player "new" with the grey and orange interface, and the white on grey logo doesn't show them, clicking on the icon at the bottom shows Subtitles: off / choose subtitle file.I then created an srt file with the same

Unable to disable subtitles in Windows Media Player

    Hi folks,

I rented Shutter Island last night and was unable to disable the subtitles in Windows Media Player. Is this something to do with regional playback protection? Does anybody have a workaround to fix this issue?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Subtitles in videos in Windows 10.

    1. Yes, I've tried. Unfortunately, it has not worked (I read that it has worked for some people, but not for me).

    2. Nothing. It plays the video normally, without even detecting the subtitles, no way to activate them.

    3. About which other apps don´t work, Movies&TV. It detects the subtitles, but in most cases, when activating them, the app keeps freezing for moments and then it stops showing the subtitles. When trying to activate them again it crashes. I've recently seen
some cases in which besides the freezing at the start, it ends and then starts showing the subtitles (Big subtitles, I like it) normally (Let's call this case 1). Or some cases when I can activate the subtitles without any negative result (Let's call this
case 2). The case 1 and 2 are sporadic, it's truly not common to see it working like that.

About the apps which work, they are VLC media player and Media Player Classic. I don't like them a lot but I can't do much about it.

About the Method 1. It says that it is possible that the configuration options are not correctly established, then I tell it to fix it, but it does not solve anything, the problem persists after that. And it's the only problem I've had with it in windows 10...

Note about Movies&TV app. Today (At least not before yesterday) I have seen improvements in the app. It keeps freezing at the first, but I can disable subtitles (I couldn't do that before, but it's ironic that what I need is to enable them succesfully),
and it takes more time before stopping showing the subtitles and crashing when enabling them again.

  4. Windows Media Player: Subtitles Don't Work

    Windows Media Player Subtitles

    Hi,

If you have installed the required codecs for Windows Media Player that allows it to recognize subtitle it should work.
