Windows 10: Windows Media Player WMP "Server execution failed"

When I open an mp3 file with WMP, the default app, it gives error "Server execution failed". It plays OK with another app, Media Player.Thanks for your help,SweetTasha

New Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox

Anyone who uses Windows Vista and Mozilla Firefox may be pleased to hear that the Windows Media Player team has now released a plugin for Firefox that should allow the browser to play WMP content on websites. Here are the steps to get it working:

• Installation of the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin may require administrative access to your PC. It is recommended that you close all other open browser windows before continuing with the installation.
• Click the Install button to automatically download and install the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin.
• Depending on your security settings, you may see a Security Warning dialog box. Click Install to install the plugin.

There is a known issue if you are using Firefox version 2.0.0.3 on Windows Vista with the installer failing with error code -203. To work around this simply restart Firefox (you will get a notification that Windows Vista will be changing the Firefox compatibility settings) and then install again - the second time should succeed.

The download is available here, and the new plugin works on all versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista (although it is mostly intended for Vista, as that currently has no WMP support in Firefox).

Windows 7 Media Player - Server execution failed

Hi MicroSoft Team,

i have tried the below two methods ( Method 1 and 2 )o resolve the problem.

but still there is no improvement. still facing the same error " Server execution failed" while playing the WMP file

when i tried the 3rd method i could not " Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player" in Turn Windows features On or Off".

i am using windows 7

Please advise.

Method 1.

Now you have to stop the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and check for the issue, to do that you need to follow the steps provided below.



1. Control Panel -- Administrative Tools -- Services. Find the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, open it, click on Stop to stop the service.



2. Close Windows Media Player 12 if it is started.



3. input %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\ to Windows Explorer to find the folder.



4. Move all files in the folder to another place as a backup.



Note: Move files in the specific folder will reset database.



5. Restart Windows Media Player to see if we can add files to Library now.



Method 2.

1. Click on Start and in the search bar type cmd.exe

2. Right click on cmd.exe and click on Run as Administrator

3. In the command prompt type the following command

net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add

4. Press enter and restart the computer
