    Hi all,

Just after some opinions on an issue that I have resolved on the face of it. Basically, something on laptop knocked out both my sound device and network media devices from being recognised by windows. I had absolutely no network connectivity on my laptop. I contacted my vendor for advice, and they reckoned it was my Killer Wireless AC 1550. The IT guy figured it was a driver issue.

Anyway, I have done a system restore and created another. This issue has happened twice now, the first time I did a reset, and everything was okay for about five days. I also knew that it may not work for long. I have also updated the wireless card dvr as the other was two years old, so perhaps something has recently caused some instability. I do have a system image on the Kingston thumb drive that came with the laptop, but going through the advanced menu to access it, it would not do anything other than boot into windows.

Personally, I have never seen any PC have its network and sound media knocked out like this. Also, the event viewer was down, but I did look at the run and run once folders in the registry to see if any malware was there undetected. The folder seemed to be clean. I also looked at ipconfig and the media were all disconnected. So, on a hardware level the devices were all detectable in the console.

I think maybe malware rooted deep somewhere could be an issue, or maybe some critical files maybe missing, but not impeding windows operating. If this happens again, could it possibly be chipset related, or the wireless card? Or maybe windows need to be a complete fresh install. I do have a bonafide installation W10 Home Edition disc. The laptop has the usual digital install and partition. Sorry for being long winded here. Any thoughts please?

    Kind Regards

    Tim

    :)

nb: It may be to do with your zip code and or post code not being entered

  3. New Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox

Anyone who uses Windows Vista and Mozilla Firefox may be pleased to hear that the Windows Media Player team has now released a plugin for Firefox that should allow the browser to play WMP content on websites. Here are the steps to get it working:
    • Installation of the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin may require administrative access to your PC. It is recommended that you close all other open browser windows before continuing with the installation.
    • Click the Install button to automatically download and install the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin.
    • Depending on your security settings, you may see a Security Warning dialog box. Click Install to install the plugin.
There is a known issue if you are using Firefox version 2.0.0.3 on Windows Vista with the installer failing with error code -203. To work around this simply restart Firefox (you will get a notification that Windows Vista will be changing the Firefox compatibility settings) and then install again - the second time should succeed.

The download is available here, and the new plugin works on all versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista (although it is mostly intended for Vista, as that currently has no WMP support in Firefox).
