Windows 10: Windows Modules Installer does not exist in Services.

I was trying to run sfc /scannow, which gave me:
Code: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.[/quote] I figured through google that it's the problem of the Windows Modules Installer,
and the problem seemed to be the default setting of its startup type;
however, when I went into services.msc, Windows Modules Installer did not even exist.

I then went to c:\windows\servicing in order to check whether TrustedInstaller.exe existed, which it did, so I tried running it, but nothing happened.

Any thoughts?

Windows Module Installer is the correct service.

 

Specified service does not exist as an installed service

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. To access your System Information file select the keyboard shortcut
Win+R, type msinfo32
and click OK . Place the cursor on
System Summary. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Click Save.
Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two
for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. If the report is in a
language other than English, please state the language.

Welcome to the Forum!

Please right-click the white Window on the bottom left of the screen.
Select: Command Prompt(Admin)

At the Command Prompt, copy/paste (with mouse), or, type: sc config trustedinstaller start= auto
Press: Enter
A Success message should appear.

Next, at the Command Prompt, enter: net start trustedinstaller
A message stating that the service was started should appear.

Now try the sfc /scannow command.

 

both of those did not work, unfortunately.

Please try it with a space after the equal sign.

 

It returns the same thing:

Sorry, my fault!! It is altogether missing. *Eek

Make sure that the TrustedInstaller.exe file exists in the %WinDir%\servicing folder.
If this file is missing you can try to restore it from your Windows 10 installation media.

Go to the Automated Restore:
Windows Modules Installer - Windows 10 Service - batcmd.com

 

It exists, but it doesn't appear on the services.msc.

RestoreWindowsModulesInstallerWindows10.bat did not work - that .bat file is simply:
Code: sc config TrustedInstaller start= demand[/quote]

Let's give this a whirl:

Open Command Prompt (Admin) again.
Once at the Command Prompt, type:

Press: Enter

At c:\Windows\servicing> type in and Enter:

Hopefully, this will start the executable in the background.

Next, type in and Enter:

You should no longer received the error message as before.
It will also make you restart your computer if it finds anything wrong.

Now, press the Windows key and the R key at the same time.
Type in:

At the System Configuration console, click on the Services tab.
If the list of Services is not in alphabetical order, double click the Services column.
Look for the Windows Module Installer, it should now be on the list.
If it is not started, right-click and select: Start


How did it go?

If still no joy, we may need to replace the TrustedInstaller.exe in C:\Window\Servicing, or do a repair install.

 

Yeah, so it still throws the same error:

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

Even if I try to run TrustedInstaller (double click, admin, command prompt etc...), it won't do anything - nothing will appear on the Services.

Unfortunately, this issue is not a simple thing to solve.

At this stage it does not appear that engaging in any more procedures will solve the issue.
You need to consider a Repair Install.
