Windows 10: Windows Moviemaker

From what I read people seem to be getting moviemaker 6.0 to run on windows 10. I know its old (windows 7 ?) software, but I have found it the most user friendly video editor and easiest to use. I am sure I have used it before on 10 but I have downloaded the installer called wmm6_win7_64bit but it simply won't run. Nothing happens other than a message 'please aait whilst winows configures wmm6_win7_64bit then nothing. Has anyone successfully installed it or have an idea what I can try?

What's the file's extension (e.g., MP3)?

Thanks for that. In this incident I have to congratulate the Microsoft help desk in sorting this out for me. I had a long-time internet chat with an operator called Janice who was wonderful. She eventually found a bug in my system which I think
had been there since either creation of the pre-loaded new PC I have, AND the movie maker did not seem to be the correct Microsoft product albeit with the same installation file/folder names. It required in the end a complete reset of my PC and reload of
the major system s/w which she did on-line after taking control of my PC. Full marks to Microsoft. She did a wonderful job. Just prior to this she had done a full download of the movie maker s/w and proved that was OK. I had to do a re-download after the
reset of the PC s/w, but I am pleased to say moviemaker is now working OK.

The next thing I want to be able to do is edit a movie not created by me and which therefore does not have the source data. This needs a bit of research on my part.

Yes that's the site I got wmm6_win7_64bit from but it wont install.

 

I had it installed only minutes before I posted my 1st reply. I always make sure the link works before posting.

Do you have any fancy 3rd party AV which might be blocking the install ?
Did you get an error message when you failed to install ?

Since you have 8 GB memory, I assume you do run a 64-bit OS.
That said, any chance you are running a 32-bit OS ?

I have Avast antivirus free edition.

 

You could try Shotcut if it won't work.

Run a system file check ( sfc /scannow ) under Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin).
See if there are any corrupt files. It will try to do repair if any found.
