Windows 10: Windows Movies and TV: “to play your videos, use the media player app”

This started a few weeks ago. Whenever I try and play a movie bought via the microsoft store, the movies app opens to a black screen that says “to play your videos, use the media player app” and a prompt to open it. Opening media player does nothing to help, since it only plays downloaded videos and not stuff from the store.

Movies & TV and Windows Media Player only play audio for the first few seconds of videos

When I open a video in Movies & TV or Windows Media Player the first few seconds of the video plays only audio with a black screen (on Movies & TV) or only audio and a freeze frame of the video (on Windows Media Player). On Windows Media Player if I set the video to repeat, the freeze frame will be a little shorter on subsequent views. The issue is the worst on MP4s and M4Vs and less pronounced (but still present) with webms. The length of time in which no video is played varies from file to file but each file seems to have a consistent length of time in which it stays frozen. It lasts anywhere from half a second to like 7 seconds.

Watching a video in the Photos program has the same problem. VLC and MPC HD have absolutely no issues.

I've tried:

• repairing and resetting both apps
  
• uninstalling and reinstalling then restarting my PC.
  

 

crackling video sound on windws media player and movies&tv apps.

I had windows 10 pro. when I play a video/movie on windows media player and movies%tv app, then the visuals sound is crackling. please give me a solution .

 

Movies & TV app

Until today I have been able to play videos from a memory card with the Movies & TV app. Now when I attempt to play one I am asked how I want to open it and Movies & TV is not listed in options. I tried Windows Media player but had no luck. What has changed
and how do I get back to the app (Movies & TV) that was working prior to today?
