So KB4559309 installed at some point in the last 24 hours for me, and like everyone else, I've been swearing at my monitor for the past couple hours because I can't just uninstall it. I know restores worked for plenty of other users, but I've already tried it and it looks like around the time it was downloaded Windows stopped recognizing the D: partition of my hard drive. This happened even before I restarted the updates, and I'm pretty sure it triggered when Update downloaded that particular patch.

I figured all the Windows updates would be stored on C: so I tried restoring that to the automatic backup one week ago, but that didn't uninstall the update either.

In Disk Management, D: is listed as "Disk 1, Unknown, Not initialized." Would initializing the drive wipe all the files that were on it, or can I try anything else that should keep my files intact?

    :)

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

  3. D drive

    Hi,

Based on the details you have provided us, it appears that there might be some corrupted contents on the said partition. We can also consider that this is caused by a virus.

For us to check if a certain virus is hiding your files, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Type Command prompt in the search bar.
    • Type-in the following command:

      attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
    • Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

    • Click on the File Explorer.
    • Select This PC.
    • Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
    • Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

Let us know how it goes so that we can further assist you.

    No longer recognizes CD/DVD drive

Since receiving the Win 10 Home upgrade my computer no longer recognizes the DVD drive. It doesn't show in Device Manger or in the device list in This PC although it does spin up if you insert media into it. I've tried all the suggested remedies except messing with the registry and nothing works. This is one of several problems I've had with device drivers since the upgrade.

    Windows 10 Home 64 bit
    AMD FX-4130 3.80Ghz
    8Gb Installed memory
