Windows not detecting mic input, can output audio just fine

Hello. I've been having a big issue recently with windows audio input. I recently got a PC from my friend and everything is set up, but my mic cannot work no matter what I've tried. I'm using bose in ear earbuds wired and connecting them using a USB adapter turtle beach atlas edge. They work fine with outputting audio, but the mic does not work. I've tried multiple adapters and earbuds, and tested it on the audio jacks as well, and windows never detected mic input for them. My earbuds worked fine on my phone AND my laptop which had windows 10 as well. I've checked the following:

    - control panel and HD audio

    - sound settings

    - audio drivers

    - updated all drivers

The mic is being detected by windows but does not detect input EXCEPT the crackling it makes when I connect the adapter to my earbuds. It also detects the audio being output by the earbuds when I don't connect the earbuds all the way. I genuinely have no idea as to what's going on and I'm confused and frustrated. Any way on how to solve this?

    To note:
    -I am running windows 10

    - the earbuds worked fine on my other laptops

    - I've tried every jack and USB port on my PC so I don't think those are the problem

    - my friend also used a USB adapter before and it worked fine as we talked many times when he had the pc I currently have

    :)

  2. No audio input or output devices found

After the last update of Windows 10, no audio devices are listed

Searching in the device manager: all audio devices say it works fine

The sound setting says: no output or input devices were found.

    Earphone mic not being detected

There is only HD audio manager app, I set it as headset there. Oh and by "apps like zoom and ms teams work fine." I meant they use the earphone mic and not the internal mic but the voice changer app uses internal mic.

Also, when I use Windows HD Audio drivers, they show "Headphones" as output audio devices but nothing in input devices.

  4. Windows not detecting mic input, can output audio just fine

    Windows Audio Crashes

My audio stops working when ever a mic is turned on.

On login, audio output works normally, however, when ever any mic is used, both audio input and output crash and a red x shows up on the taskbar audio icon.

It seems the Windows Audio service is what crashes.

After the first crash, the audio does not come back no matter what I do until I restart my pc.

I can replicate this with the following steps:

    1. Login to pc
      • audio output working fine
    2. Open sound settings, opens to playback tab
      • audio still fine and also able to play test sounds
    3. Click on Recording Tab
      • The sound feedback indicator on the right side is missing
      • The window freezes, error window appears about DLL crash
      • If there is no connected or enabled recording device, nothing happens everything else seem to run normally
    4. Proceed to follow various trouble shooting steps
      • Some troubleshooting steps seems to get rid of the red x on the taskbar volume icon
      • The recording tab in the sound settings is also now accessible
      • However things may seem fine at first, audio input/output is still not working and playing a test sound fails.

    Solutions I've Tried:

    • DISM (ended with no errors)
    • sfc /scannow (found corrupted files, required restart)
    • Restarting Windows Audio Service (results in err 1061, service then gets stuck on stopping)
    • Disabling and re-enabling audio drivers
    • Reinstalling audio drivers from manufacturers site
    • Using windows generic audio drivers
    • Restarting my PC
As you can see, I've spent a lot of time trying to fix this issue and it is starting to get really frustrating.
