Hi, I have have been having some trouble with the search bar in my computer. when I search up apps for discord, or virtualbox, CMD, and powershell and some others they just don't appear anymore. Then When I try to run powershell from the super users menu right clicking the windows icon it says it can't find the app. I navigated to the folder it specified under appdata and it is an empty folder once I find it. I have already tried to redo the index of apps that appears on the search bar but that didn't do anything. How do I fix this?

Search Bar/Cortana

From the description, I understand that you are still receiving the pop up notifications, despite having disabled the search functionality in windows 10.

Steps to disable the Search Bar

• Right click on the task bar.
• Select the "Search" option.
• Select "Disable."

However, if the above steps don't work out, perform the below suggested steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Open a CMD window started as Administrator.

Repair corruption: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.

Run this command next: Sfc /scannow

Now run these two commands:

PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

PowerShell randomly poping-up in tool bar

Just to verify, do you have any scheduled tasks that uses Powershell? Scheduled tasks makes Powershell window appear periodically on your computer, therefore we suggest that you check the Task Scheduler. Here are the steps:

• Click on Start.
• In the search bar, type Task Scheduler and click on
  
  Task Scheduler in the results.
• Under Active Tasks, check for any tasks that use Powershell and the scheduled time.

If the issue still persist, we suggest that you run a Windows Defender scan to see if it will pick up any malware that the first scan missed.

PowerShell instead of Commandline in Creators Update

welllllllll powershell can use 99% of cmd.

otherwise you dont really need to "dig up" cmd in search since its pretty simple to type CMD.

if you are seriously that bothered you could have probably googled for 20seconds and found out you can change it just like before.

right click on task bar click "taskbar settings" toggle this setting.
