Windows 10: Windows not responding after dellsupport assist ran an update?

Hi, pretty much exactly what the title reads. I was watching YouTube no issue and Dell Support assist ran an update in the background and Windows 10 immediately stopped responding. I couldn't even open the start menu or get anything to pull up using Ctrl+Alt+Del. I tried Win+X as well and nothing.


I tried restarting in Safe Mode and doing a Clean Start with multiple programs disabled and nothing seemed to help. I tried a system restore to last week and still no improvement. I tried a second system restore to an earlier date and that restore failed, saying there was a root issue. Now it's to the point where even the opening screen on my computer isn't responsive enough to get me to the trouble shooter. I don't know what else I can do does anyone have any advice ?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC on the keyboard.

• Use the File, Run option in Task Manager to access the Command Prompt, type cmd and press Enter. Run the following command.
  
  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

I would suggest you to check and install any latest Windows Updates available.

  Go to Start and then Settings.
  
• 
  Click Update and Recovery
  
• 
  Check for updates under Windows Updates.
