Windows 10: Windows not saving ANYTHING changed on desktop after shutdown. ProfileList lost.

The last two Feature Changes have lost all desktop and file location changes I make. All History is lost on browsers Edge and Firefox. This has happened twice this year. The 1st time I used "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList". I added ".bak" to the current temp profile, and removed ".bak" from the real profile. I reset "State" to "0", but couldn't find "RefCount" to reset to "0". This actually seemed to work, and I was back in business ----- UNTIL the last Feature Change in November "19.


Now when I went in, there was NO "ProfileList", I tried the solutions listed in the question by "chrissie28" dated 6/14/2013, but was for Windows Vista. No success.


My files are still there, I can access them going into "OS c:/User/File Name", and other locations, but I cannot got to the app on the desktop and retrieve the files. Either the app is not there, or doesn't respond. Every time I turn the machine on, it takes a long time to load, and says "Preparing Windows".


Apps like the "Calculator" on the Windows Startup screen, do not function, but some recent apps like "HP Smart" are there and seem to work with a little prodding.


I have run "SFC" and "DISM" a number of times, and programs have finally returned messages that the problem was repaired. HOWEVER, I am still getting a return of "Version: 10:0:18362.1" and "Image Version: 10:0:18363.535", but can't find a way to get them to sync.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Recent (Save Files) - Change Default Settings to OneDrive

Thanks for the return. Before I undertake changing the Registry, I have a question.
The steps in my Registry, for my version of Windows 10, were a bit different, but I think I eventually got to the right spot.
The last step is to change the number of places you want to list in Recent Places. In my case, the default Max Display listed 50 as the number. So, if I were to change that number, how do I know the Save As page will be one of those places? Or, a similar question, will this registry change delete the tab Recent from my Save As page? This is what I would like to happen.
When I received my computer in Nov. 2016, the Recent tab was not listed in the Save As page. Something caused it to be added over time. Which brings me to this second question. Would there be any benefit in deleting the changed registry listing and reverting back to the default listing? See attachment.

ShutDown button in desktop (Win-10)

yeah it works but i have another problem with this combination.

Shutdown/Restart shortcut force windows to shutdown without letting other apps to save their data, that is a bit nuisance.

for eg:

Utorrent is force closed and when i start the pc, it re-calculate all the toorents in the list even those that are already downloaded and currently in seeding state. It happens when utorrent is not closed properly.

So is there any way to NORMALLY shutdown/restart/loggoff/lock windows pc?
