Hi!I've been experiencing some difficulty getting my microphone to work. My microphone is connected to a first gen Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, the same audiocard my speakers are connected to. The audio is getting picked up by the audiocard as indicated by flashing lights, I can even hear the feedback very clearly through my speakers - but only when ''Listen to this device'' is activated. Trying to wrap my head around this, the audio is clearly getting picked up by the michrophone itself as well as the audiocard, and during this specific condition also reaching the output device. If I don't have ''L

  2. Microphone is picking up the laptop's sounds.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your concern here in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10.

I understand your concern about using Microphone as expected on Windows 10, we will assist you with this issue.

I would suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

    • Right click on the sound icon in the taskbar and select the
      Recording Devices menu.

    • In the Recording
tab of Sounds window, you will notice the microphone which is active, i.e. the one with a green tick mark. Right click on the active microphone and select its
      Properties.

    • Select the Levels Tab. This tab exhibits you two sections:
      Microphone andMicrophone Boost.

    • Use the sliders to modify your volume settings. You can take the Microphone Boost slider up to +40 dB. To save the changes click on Ok.

If you do the modification while the conversation goes on then you will get the immediate feedback of the output sound from the end user and so you can adjust the volume using the sliders as per requirement.

    Method 2:

    • Right click on Start to open the Power User Menu.

    • Click on Control panel and then on
      Sound.

    • Click on the Communication tab in the sound window. You will see four options under
      When Windows detects Communication activities.

    • Click on the radio button next to
Do nothing. Click on Apply and then
OK. You might need to restart the computer to implement the changes.

Hope it helps. If you need further assistance, please do let us know and we would be happy to help you further.

Mono audio (ease of access) plus Listen to Microphone (audio control)

I wish to have my Windows 10 (20H2) machine listen to microphone (relay audio from sound input device to sound output device) and be in Mono audio mode (combine left and right input sound streams and send the combined result to both left and right output sound stream) at start-up.

The "Turn on Mono" setting does not appear to take effect until after an (any?) application using windows sound is started. The "listen to microphone" setting IS in effect at start-up (however, the audio flow is still stereo, which is not intended.)

    Here is the step-by-step:

    1. Start Windows 10, no audio-based application running
    2. Ease of Access > Audio > Turn on Mono
    3. Sound Control Panel > Recording > (double click on) Microphone > Listen > [x] Listen to this Device

    4. Reboot.

    5. At this point, the "Turn on Mono" setting does not appear to be in effect (left and right audio channels are still distinct)

    6. Start (any) windows sound application

    7. At this point, the "Turn on Mono" setting DOES appear to be in effect (left and right channels are merged at input, and the merged audio is presented to both left and right audio outputs)

    8. Stop the windows sound application

    9. At this point, the "Turn on Mono" setting DOES appear to be in effect (left and right channels are merged at input, and the merged audio is presented to both left and right audio outputs)

    Repeatable beginning at step 4.

I imagine this is not intended behavior, and I'm wondering if it's an oversight in Windows 10?

Thanks for any advice or attempts to duplicate this sequence.

    Microphone issues

    Hi Michael,

Here are the possible reasons why you're getting an error "The microphone did not pick anything up" when using it:

    • Incorrect settings (microphone is not set as default device)
    • Corrupted or outdated driver
    • Faulty device

For us to isolate the issue, we'd like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made to your computer prior to this issue(e.g. Windows updates)?
    • Have you tried connecting other microphone to your computer?
    • Have you tried connecting the microphone to the other computer?

In the meantime, we suggest running the Recording Audio Troubleshooter to find and repair problems with recording sound. We also suggest checking if your microphone is set as your default recording device. For troubleshooting steps, please see
    Geethu B's on this
    link.

We're looking forward to your reply.
