Windows 10: Windows optional update overwriting AMD GPU drivers

Hi guys,For the last few months I've been having the issue of Microsofts AMD display drivers being automatically installed, replacing my AMD GPU drivers on my system. I don't have this issue of any other optional driver updates running just the gpu drivers.I have applied the registry fix to block it, but it still happens about once a week. I am running windows 10 home edition so I don't have access to block the updates through local gpo.Does anyone know of a permanent fix for this issue?Regards,

Windows Update overwrites a new AMD driver to the 15.11 one

I forced deleted the outdated driver with DriverStore Explorer, run DDU and the AMD cleaning tool, installed the new one and windows update installed the outdated one again.

I used your reg entries









But wasnt sure how to disable this one

thanks a lot for your reply.

I know it's a known problem but I already did the steps suggested most of the times. The show hide tool was suggested once but without an official download.

I have now done what you suggested and managed to intercept and hide this version of the drivers but I guess that if a new one is released on windows update this might happen again and I'll have to do it again.

Let's say it's a workaround rather than a solution. I still don't understand why it still could update drivers (the option in the setting and the registry are there for....?!) and most importantly why windows tries to overwrite the latest suggested version of the drivers from AMD.

SSD samsung evo and amd drivers

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

The issue could be because of the AMD drivers installed on the computer.

Since the Samsung SSD is working fine with the Microsoft AHCI driver, I suggest you to update the AMD driver and check if that helps. To update the AMD drivers follow the steps from the article

Update drivers in Windows 10.

If updating the drivers didn’t help, I suggest you to roll back the driver to previous build and check if that helps. To roll back the driver to previous build follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press and hold the Windows + X key on the keyboard.
   
2. Select Device manager.
   
3. In Device manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
   
4. Right click on AMD SATA Controller and select
   Properties.
   
5. Navigate to the Driver tab and click on Roll Back Driver.
   
6. Restart the computer.
