    Windows paging apps and browser tabs to my hard drive D:?


    Forgive me for not knowing the correct terminology, but my problem is weird. I have an HP Pro 3500 with an i5-3470, 8 gigs of RAM, a 128 gig SSD, and a 500 gig hard drive. When cycling through browser tabs or anything that hasn’t been opened in a while, it is really slow. If I open a few chrome tabs and leave them minimized for a day or two, they are really slow and unresponsive. I checked task manager to see what the heck was happening and my D: drive usage was at 100% while cycling through tabs and minimized apps. I have two other computers with similar specs (a Dell with an i5-4440 and another Dell with an i5-2500, other specs identical) and a higher powered Dell with an i7-4790 and 16 gigs of ram. All of them are fine, except the HP. Could windows be paging the apps to the hard drive? If so, how do I change it to only page to the SSD. Also, while looking through the drive in file explorer, I see nothing but my files, no other hidden folders so that also puzzles me. Again, my other computes with similar specs don’t do this, just the HP.

    To help you with your concern regarding the internal hard drive, let me suggest you to follow the steps below:

    • Open File Explorer
    • Right-click on the Drive D:
    • Select Properties
    • Click Security tab then select Advanced
    • Select Change after the Owner: line

    Please reply to few more questions:


    • Is the D: drive located on the same hard disk or on different hard disk?

    • Did you have any important data saved on the
      D:       drive?


    If the D: is saved on another hard disk and you are unable to access it, I suggest you to format the drive completely and check if the issue is resolved.



    To format the hard disk, follow the steps below:




    • Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
      Disk management option.

    • Right click on the D: drive and select
      Format option.

    • Wait for the formatting to complete and check if the changes are effective.
