Windows 10: Windows PC Freezes Out Of Nowhere and My Mouse Cursor Still Moves

Lately I haven't been able to do work on my pc because it keeps freezing randomly and the cursor is still able to move. Whenever I try to turn it off, it won't so then Ibhave to turn it off. Can anybody please help me?

Intermittent Freezing linked to Cursor movement

Hi,

The cursor on my laptop freezes every few seconds when I move it. This happens with both my bluetooth mouse and my inbuilt touchpad. I know the laptop is freezing and not just the cursor because if I run an app with a progress bar it also freezes at the same time as the cursor. The freezing only seems to happen when I move the cursor.

The freezing is just momentary (like it pauses for a second and then goes on as normal). I do not have to do anything to get it to unfreeze.

I have tried re-installing the drivers for mouse and touch pad.

I have defragged and cleaned up the HD.

I have tried doing a system restore but just get an error (I only have 1 restore point because I stupidly deleted them to create space I didnt need in case it was a space issue).

Any suggestions would be welcome.

How to make mouse cursor move in XP like Windows 7?

I switched back to Windows XP from Windows 7 recently for a few reasons, I'm having trouble with the mouse cursor though and find it doesn't move exactly the same as it does in Windows 7. It's a little hard to describe, but in Windows 7 I felt like it took less effort to move the cursor around and get it to stop where I want. Windows XP feels different to me, again it's difficult to describe. Am I crazy or does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, is there a way to make it more like Windows 7?

 

Freezes but mouse cursor and keyboard still work - must reboot

It happened again! This time, I was not watching a video. CPU temperature was about 20C.

Here's what I had open:

• Two Microsoft Word (an old XP version) windows
• Two Chrome windows with lots of tabs
• Microsoft OneNote, the desktop app

If I could describe the problem, it would probably be that I can move the mouse cursor but not click on something. I supposed freeze is seeming like the wrong way to describe this now. It's so weird.

I'm going to try a different tactic now focusing on the mouse. I have X-Mouse Button Control installed. Next time the freeze happens, I'm going to check if this program can detect any button pushes. I'm using a Logitech M705 mouse. I don't see any drivers on Logitech's page, but there is a firmware update for the wireless receiver that I will install. Any other tips for checking the mouse?
