  1. Windows PC sends multiple authentication requests to Wifi router even for wrong password.

Hi, I am using following version of windows.Edition Windows 11 Enterprise Version 23H2 Installed on ‎10/‎3/‎2024 OS build 22631.5189 I am trying to connect to a wi-fi router with wrong password. I could notice that the windows is trying multiple attempts to connect to Wi-Fi using the same wrong password and after some time the error appears that the password is wrong. I know this from the logs of the router. This happens even when "Connect Automatically" option is disabled. How many times the re-attempts are made by windows to connect to the Wi-Fi? I want to configure it to only one attempt. I

Windows 7 virtual wifi authentication mode

    Hello.

Just a quick question to whoever is using windows 7 virtual wifi capability - when you type in "netsh wlan show hostednetwork", cmd window displays a list of settings for your hosted virtual wifi.

I was wondering, is there a way to change authentication method from WPA2-Personal to simple WEP ?

    Cheers.

Windows 7 virtual wifi authentication mode

    Hi, thanks for replying.

No, that's not what I meant.

Windows 7 has a built-in ability to create a virtual wifi connection, provided that the PC is equipped with a wifi adapter - basically, the PC acts like a router for all the other devices.

You access that particular ability via cmd window ( netsh wlan set/start/stop hostednetwork ).

However, the virtual network that Windows create is always secured with WPA2-Personal type of authentication, and the device that I'm using to connect to this network has particular "distaste" for WPA2 security method ( basically, I get disconnects followed by constant reconnects every minute or so ), while on wifi networks with WEP authetication it works just fine. I've tested this thoroughly and I always had problems on networks with WPA2 type of security method.

Basically, I need a way to force windows 7 virtual hotspot to use WEP authentication instead of WPA2.

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.

First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

    Break command list: Break Commands

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".
