Windows 10: Windows Photo Gallery - Drag and drop change in behaviour

Yes I know Windows Photo Gallery isn't supported any more. However, I have been using it for years and it still beats Windows Photos for tagging photos. Within the last week or so, the default action of dragging and dropping photos from one folder to another has changed from 'Move' to 'Copy'. It is annoying because one is never clear whether the copy has worked or not before going into the target folder, checking it, than returning to the source folder and deleting the original images. I cannot find anything to say why it has changed, not how to change the default action back to Move from Copy.

Has anyone else experienced this and knows how to fix it?

Changed behaviour Lumia Camera and Gallery

It seems the behaviour of the gallery and how photos are handled has changed with Denim. If I take a photo and remove the 5MP oversampled image this will now also remove the full-res image from the phone. As far as I recall this is different from before
and IMO not wanted behaviour. Also the option to look for 'orphaned' Full-res images is no longer available in settings which makes me suspect this is by design.

Why was this changed and can we get the original process back please? we should be moving forward, not take steps back.

 

Photo gallery


We seem to be at cross purpose here.I am unable to download photo gallery from windows essentials to drag or do anything else in windows 10.To try and clarify I have two computers,one with W7 and photo gallery working fine with a load of photo's in and another computer with W10 on where I seem unable to download photo gallery from windows essentials.The problem is being able to download photo gallery to W 10 that will work.Hope this helps.

 

Drag and Drop

Hi Charles,

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.
