Windows 10: Windows plays connect/disconnect sound for hard drive docking station, but no drive appears

I have a hard drive docking station, a Thermaltake BlackX Duet and it works fine for almost every drive, but I got a stack of hard drives that use to work in the docking station, but do not anymore. Windows 10 plays the sound as if the drives are connected, but no new drive letters show up. Disk Manager did show one drive that I know had data on it, but disk management said it was not formatted. The rest don't show up at all. Some drives that I insert do not produce the connect/disconnect sound.


I need to make sure there is no information on those drives before I destroy them, so I need to figure out a solution to this problem.

internal drive in docking station doesn't show up on computer

Hi,

If the WD Black and the Maxtor drives (when inserted into the docking station) can be fully formatted and work properly when connected to the other PC, it sounds like
Windows is the problem.

Try the following:

• Insert the WD Black drive into the docking station
• Connect the USB cable to the new PC
• Turn on the power to the docking station
• Then restart the PC
• Then check it again

If Windows has a problem reading HDD while it is in the docking station, doing this sometimes fixes it.

If this does not work, leave everything as above and shut down the PC for 1 minute, boot the PC and check it again.

Windows 10 and Sabrent docking station not reading Western Digital hard drive

No the drive is not showing. Yes it is connected via USB.

When starting up the docking station sounds like it's trying to read the drive but now I wonder if the docking station is the problem.

I can take my old drive and this docking station to a friends and try to read it on their computer tomorrow but really need to access files as soon as I can.
