Windows Power Management - Power Saver - is this safe for graphic card

Hi. If i change in Windows 10 in Power Management from Balanced to Power Saver is this safe for graphic card?
I change from Balanced to Power Saver and fps in benchmark went from 180fps to 50fps. Is there any hardware related changes due to swap from Balanced to Power Saver ?

    :)

    Black screen

Boot into safe mode and turn off fast startup and integrated graphics card.

Link provided on how to get into safe mode.

    https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

Once in safe mode go to search and type power options.

Click Additional power options on the right

Click Choose what the power buttons do

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

Uncheck Turn on Fast Startup (recommended)

    Close

Right click Start and select device manager.

Under “Display adapters”, you will see more than one graphics card there.

Right-click on the integrated graphics card (usually an Intel or AMD graphics card) .

Click Disable to disable the card.

    Reboot

Let me know how you make out.

  3. Adaptive brightness automatically enables

This could also be an underlying issue with your graphic settings. If you haven't checked it yet, turning off the power saver or similar settings in your graphics card properties can resolve this issue.

Please update us with the status. We will be glad to help you further.

Power Saver attempts to save power by reducing the CPU’s speed all the time and lowering screen brightness, among other similar settings and that may account for your fps drop when benchmarking. Doesn't sound like a good choice for your purposes.

  6. No, it just you won't get 100% performance. I recommend you set Windows power management to Balanced, and go to your NVIDIA control panel and see GPU power to Adaptive.

  7. I agree with Aardvark and RubberDucky. You are seeing the significant performance hit by using power saving mode which is likely due to your CPU always being clocked down, even while gaming. You could confirm this by running any of the monitoring tools (CPUZ, etc).

I don't know any PC gamers using power saving mode. I was until recently always running on high performance. To try to get my CPU to somewhat catch up with my GPU, I now OC the CPU from it's standard 3.3 clock to 4.0. In high performance power the CPU always stays at 4.0, but with balanced it clocks down automatically when I'm not gaming. I'm not a benchmarking guy but ran Firestrike to see if my system was performing without issues. My first score was in high performance mode, the second in balanced and that second score was actually a bit higher, so balanced is taking care of the hardware without performance hits.

I haven't heard of power saving mode harming hardware, but you could run into specific game or video driver issues and as you see overall you are getting a significant performance hit. Balanced is the best of both worlds.
