Windows 10: Windows Pro .... DVD not working

Hey, my brother did a recovery of Windows 10 pro, her DVD player isn't working ! I took a pic of his "uninstall Programs" and looks like there should be more there than there is ! Here is a pic of the Programs !!

Wouldn't the DVD player show up in the "Devices & Printers ? It doesn't !!
Any help for him !

Installing from DVD on Another Device on Network

I have two machines, a Windows 7 Desktop and a Surface Pro with Windows 10. As you probably know, the Surface Pro does not have a DVD drive. However, I am working on transitioning my setup to my Surface Pro (and possibly other tablets and/or laptops I
buy), but I want to install software I have that came on DVDs. Is there a way to use the DVD drive on my Windows 7 Desktop to install those DVDs to another device on my network (in this case, my Surface Pro with Windows 10)? Thanks.

 

DVD not recognized on Windows 10

Original title:- DVD burning in Windows 10

I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10. I went to create a repair DVD and the Backup menu indicated no DVD was available. The DVD worked with Windows 7. The Device Manager indicates a DVD is available. How I get the DVD burner to function?

 

Don't believe so. CD/DVD devices will show in Device Manager. Devices and printers are printers, of course (not shown in my pic) and other things like Monitor, UPS, the machine itself, speakers, etc.

 

Programs and features would show any software associated with burning disks etc. If it was installed.
My DVD burner shows up in Control Panel > all control panel items > Devices and Printers, under devices. It's listed as Mass Storage Device.
And in Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Mass Storage Devices.
The place to look is in Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM Drives. See if it has a yellow ! or red X.

 

Is your burner external?

 

Yes, oops, *Doh It's an HP Lightscribe USB drive. Out of site out of mind. I hardly ever use it these days. Lost site of it being USB. *Redface

 

Thanks for the response guys ! Yes it shows in the pic like f14Tomcat posted, no there is no yellow exclamation or any X's there !! I'm guessing it just went bad !! He hasn't used it in 6-8 months !!

I think you must be talking about an app to play DVDs rather than the DVD drive itself. I can see from your screenshot he already has one app capable of playing DVDs - VLC Media Player.

Maybe you are talking about Microsoft's 'Windows DVD Player'. If so, that is a Modern Windows App, none of those appear in 'Programs and Features', that's just for old style installed programs. You should be looking in Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Click on an app in this list to reveal more options...





...for the Windows DVD Player, the blue 'Advanced options' link takes you to this page.





Try looking for 'Windows DVD Player' on the Start menu's 'all apps' list, see if you can run it from there. If not, then a
'Reset' may help.

Or maybe you're talking abut some other app, if so we'd need to know what it is.

No problem. Could try uninstalling it and it's drivers (there's a check box for that), then rebooting, which will reinstall it, to see if that will jolt it loose. Just a thought.
