    Windows Product BIOS Key and Windows Product Registry key should they be the same?


    Hi,My question is Windows Product BIOS Key and Windows Product Registry key should they be the same?What if the Windows Product BIOS key is differ from the Windows Product Registry key?Also should we keep Windows Product key some where safe or in case of loss we can obtain from MS.Any help in this regard will be appreciated.Thank you.

    A friend of mine has an all-in-one that came with Windows 8 pre-installed. He erased the original OS thinking he could install another version of Windows 8. One thing he encountered, that he didn't expect, the BIOS/UEFI has a password. So, basically he is locked out from installing another OS. His BIOS has the product key nestled inside. Is it possible to find out which version the product key belong to?

    That looks like the Windows Key to me. I wouldn't be advertising it *Wink Windows Product BIOS Key and Windows Product Registry key should they be the same? ;)

    Product Key


    Keys are not required for the upgrade process. Windows 10 has a built-in generic key which it uses to install - it acquires the underlying Win7/Win8 activation during the upgrade process and assigns your device ID as a valid Windows 10 activated device. Subsequent installs will thus activate using your device ID. You will not require a key - should you be prompted, select "skip". Activation is automatic thereafter.
