Windows 10: Windows rant about having a TV as a second monitor

I can't believe how stupid windows gets when there are more than one screen connected. And it's the simple things like if I open an app from MONITOR 1 then why is it opening on #2? It's just dumb. If I am doing something on this screen, then why would I want it to open on a different one?!? If I am clicking in side #1, then everything I open and do should be inside monitor 1, it is wanted to move stuff to #2, then I would. Also, my TV could be complete off and still windows would think it's there and let me looses windows and my mouse in the void basically.

Second monitor (TV) is plugged in, detected by Windows, but no signal

Today I purchased a DP -> HDMI cable to hook up from my PC’s NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2060 Super to a Toshiba 50LF621U19 Amazon Fire TV. DP end in the graphics card, HDMI end on the side of the TV, and alas, no signal.

Windows still detects the TV and interprets that a second monitor is present - the mouse can move to the second unviewable screen and do what it wants, and be brought back to the main monitor. Display settings allow me to tweak all the settings for the TV
display but none of them make a signal appear.

Cable isn’t an issue - connects to other screens and displays them just fine. Computer shouldn’t be an issue either if it detects the TV and lets me configure the display that isn’t appearing. Computers have been able to connect to this TV just fine in the
past, but now this one is having issues.

I’ve snooped around quite a few threads on the internet and found little to help my case here. Any suggestions?

The main monitor is an ASUS VP249QGR, 1080p @ 144Hz by the way.

 

TV as second monitor not working

My main monitor would be on fine then i go and plug in my second monitor (TV) and my main monitor goes completely black and nothing comes up on anything even when i press Windows + P

 

Resolution on a Sony Bravia TV used as a second monitor

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I bought the Sony Bravia in 2008. It is a model KDL-42V4100. Like I said before it was working as a second display monitor just fine for 6 months.

The major symptom is that the colors being displayed are reversed. White is black and vice versa. Blue is blue. Others are mixed. There is some blurriness especially with a video, which is the primary intended purpose.

I looked at what you mentioned. I replaced the Wide Angle Flexview 2880x1620 driver. This is being used by the primary laptop from what I see. This was not a problem, but I noticed that an update was available. I am using a 2880x1620 resolution, as that
is what Windows 10 recommends.

The secondary TV monitor is using the Generic PnP Monitor driver. Windows says that it is the current driver and is working properly. There is another odd symptom. When I have the TV connected and I go to System -> Dsiplay - Advanced Feature - the box with
the monitors shows only one monitor. When I click on the Identify button the same number shows on both the laptop monitor and the TV.

You mentioned checking the HDR settings. My display settings say that I am using SDR.

My plan of attack is as follows:

1. I have a second Sony Bravia. I will connect the laptop to that one and see if the behavior is different. That TV is a few years newer and internet capable. I need to be careful on my timing for this activity, as that is the TV the wife watched her soaps
   on.
2. Reinstall Generic PnP Monitor driver even though it says there is nothing wrong with it.
3. Continue to browse the net.
4. Consider buying a new laptop.
5. ......
