  1. Windows registers Date format as File Type with File Extensions Hidden in Settings

When saving a file with the date at the end 01.02.2023 Windows saves the file type as "2023"Extensions for known file types are disabled in File Explorer options, so the computer should default to saving as the selected file type PDF, but instead is thinking that the .2023 is the file extension.Since the user experiencing this issue is not great at computers, I would like to resolve the issue without enabling File Extensions.Has anyone found a resolution for this issue?

    :)

  2. How to set default app for file type jpg

I would like to change the default app for the file type jpg. I've gone through all the steps for setting a default app but the jpg file extension does not appear in the list and therefore I cannot choose a default.

When I Open a jpg file it opens in the Photo app. If I look at the Photo app's settings of default file types, jpg is not there.

    Ditto for file type png.

How can I access the default setting for these and other "hidden" types?

How to add file extension or type to all files in Windows Explorer?

You're doubtless aware of this, but just to make it explicit: Renaming a file to have a "file type" of .jpg does NOT change its internal format. An image encoded in PNG format will still contain a PNG image, for example. Image viewers will either complain about the mismatched file extension or will refuse to show such an image file. Personally, when changing the format of many image files, I'd write a script which uses a command line utility (e.g. ImageMagick). Edited to add: Also, don't forget that, by default, Windows Explorer hides the file type extension for "known" file types like .jpg. To see all of those hidden file types, you must enable "Show hidden file name extensions" in (any) File Explorer's "View" ribbon. Adding another innocuous file type like .jpg to .exe files is a common ploy used to disguise malware.
