Windows 10: Windows reinstall stuck at downloading 71%

Tried to uninstall AVG using their uninstaller on my new ASUS Zenbook 14 today. The uninstaller prompted me to restart into safe mode to complete uninstallation. I did so, and was hit with a "Something happened and your pin isn't available" on the login screen and could not get in to Windows. After lots of troubleshooting in the BIOS and troubleshooting menu, and a number of online tutorials, no luck. Eventually decided to just reinstall Windows.Reinstall from cloud seemed to be going okay; I chose to keep my files if that matters. However, the reinstallation got stuck at Downloading 71%. Ha

Same for me. I did a refresh and it got stuck and 71%, i did a reset all setting installation and again stuck at 71%. I'm totally baffled. I can only think that there is a bad sector everytime Windows tries to go to that same sector at 71% and just dies
there. I've done what JimWWatson suggested and all sorts of variation of that. This is just ridiculous. I"m going to try to reinstall Win 8.0 and see if that will work.

I have a Dell Latitude 10. It came with Win 8 32 bit. I upgraded to Win 10 during the free upgrade time. When the 1607 update came out, the machine went to crud. It always failed at 71%. I did the above steps. I finally busted out my Win 8 install stick
that came from Dell. I did a clean install of Win 8. Great. i did the upgrade installation and It got stuck at the exact same 71%. When I rebuilt the machine I only deleted the windows partition. I'm now going to wipe the entire drive and see if it continues.
This is beyond frustrating.

 

Windows Creator Update (1703) fails to install: stuck on 71% after reboot

Hi Ian,

I've downloaded the Windows Update troubleshooter and ran it. It found and corrected some error and the said it was all corrected and ok. I retried to install via Update Assistant but after some reboots the install process has stuck on 71% like before....
Now I have rolled back to previous installation.

I will try to reset the Windows Update component manually as you suggested

followed the instructions on the cited article but the result is the same: installation stuck on 71% and restore of the previous versione of windows
