Windows 10: Windows running in background and not showing on display plus a steam issue.

I downloaded steam and it has altered things in my display. Now when i launch them they are running but not on my single display as in they are running in the background. like if i scroll over the taskbar i see the active screen but its not on my display, can anyone advise on a fix?This all started when i downloaded steam and just steam alone wouldn't show on the screen, so i was advised to run windows compatibilty trouble shooter and it recommended a display fix for steam. I allowed the change then it launched steam in a zoomed safety mode style window on my screen that i couldn't navigate, a

Please confirm a few things for me.

1. Is this issue occurring with ‘Steam’ being installed on your system?
   
2. Have you checked if the controller still works on your Windows when ‘Steam’ is not running in the background?
   

Please check with the following methods.

Method 1:

Stop the process for steam in task manager and check with this.

You can stop ‘Steam’ running in the background by following the steps below:

1. Press ‘Ctrl’, ‘Shift’ and ‘Esc’. This will launch the ‘Task Manager’.
   
2. Click on the ‘Details’ tab, you should be able to locate the ‘steam.exe’ process if ‘Steam’ is running in the background.
   
3. Right-click on it and select ‘End process tree’ to stop the ‘Steam’ running in the background.
   
4. Check if the controller is still working on the Desktop.
   

Method 2:

I would suggest you to check the settings in the Steam application. You may follow the steps below:

1. Launch the ‘Steam’ application, click on ‘Settings’.
   
2. You should be able to locate the ‘Controller’ option under ‘Settings’.
   
3. Under ‘Controller Configuration’, click on the ‘Desktop Configuration’. Please confirm the settings there.

Program running a background process?

I'm running Corel Video Studio 2018, and it's updates function shows characteristics of a background process:

- the program has an auto check daily plus a manual option for updates

- manually checked, presented with an option of downloading an update and Ok'd, evidence of any activity vanishes from the program workspace, yet the connected internet modem activity light begins running hot as the download happens

- it's repeatable over several up-date cycles

The evidence seems to suggest a background activity - whilst the program/PC is free to use for other things. Several software packages do this.

However, a check in task manager/processes, show all, does not display any info of a related background process for any Corel or Video Studio program. If a background process is being used by the software, MUST it be listed in the task manager/processes
list?

Platform is windows 7 home sp1 64bit plus the important patches.
