    When I open the app, it says, "To get started, connect a scanner." There is no option to do that anywhere. I reinstalled the all the Canon drivers, and it seems impossible to connect it through the Windows settings. Any help is appreciated.

    Windows Fax and Scan "No scanners were detected"

    My laptop is running Windows 10. The printer is a Canon MX922. Just installed updated printer driver.

    When I print its fine. Also when scanning using the Canon IJ Scan Utility it scans fine.

    However when using Windows Fax and Scan I receive the message "no scanners were detected".

    Any suggestions?

  3. Windows 10 fax and scan does not recognize my scanner

    I have exactly the same problem - my all-in-one printer prints perfectly and used to scan perfectly too. Now it says that it cannot detect the scanner.

    I am using an Epson WF-4640 and Windows 10. Again, printing works like a dream, which suggests that all is connected quite happily.

    I have tried:

    • uninstalling and reinstalling the printer
    • updating the printer drivers
    • searching for "Windows Fax and Scan" in the programs and apps, to update it, but I cannot find it
    • likewise, when I go into the device manager, there is no separate scanner listed (I thought this might give me an option to update the driver) - although the printer is shown
    • using "Scan" instead, which the Microsoft app store tells me I have installed, but when I run it, it says that first I have to "connect a scanner" - my scanner is turned on and connected, so I am not sure where to go from here!

    Any other suggestions, please? At the moment I am plugging the gap by scanning by the very inferior Epson Scan utility, but I much preferred Windows Fax and Scan - when it worked...

    Hi JSmith,

    Your scanner should be installed first in order for your computer to recognize it. Since you're using a printer/scanner in one, you need to add or install the device as a printer and as a scanner. Make sure that the printer is properly connected to your
    computer and is turned on when you try to install it. Follow these steps:

    • Click Start > Settings > Devices.
    • Under Add printers & scanners, click the + sign and select
      Add device.

    Once added, try checking if you're able to scan. If your computer still doesn't detect the scanner, then we suggest that you get in touch with HP Support for further assistance.
