Windows 10: Windows Search Highlights option is greyed out + Cannot find "windows" in...

Hey there u wanted to enable Search Highlights but it greyed out I also referred to a post on Microsoft here It shows that we have to go into the registry editor to fix and it gives me a directory "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer"But there is no folder inside Microsoft named "windows" It only has one folder named "SystemCertificates".Plus! I have tried creating the key "windows" then "explorer" inside windows and adding "Dword 32-bit Value" and naming it "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions" and making the value zero but still nothing works yet in group policies inside

Windows Search Highlights option is greyed out

Hi, open the registry editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

If DisableSearchBoxSuggestions is there with a value of 1, search highlights will be greyed out.

Set DisableSearchBoxSuggestions to a value of zero or delete it, close out regedit, then reopen the search settings and you should be able to select search highlights.

PC Configuration

Lenovo Legion Y740, Model: 81UJ0001US, Windows 11 Home 22H2 (Build 22623.1325). Enrolled into Insider Beta channel.

I'm the admin and only person on this PC.

Issue

It's been a long time since Search Highlights had been in testing / rolled out to large number of people. But on my machine, it is still not available.

When I go to Windos Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Search Permissions, I see "Show Search Hightlights" option is disabled and greyed out. So, I can't enable it at all. And my search UI is stuck with the old UI.





Looks like the new "Bing Chat in Search" also requires Search Highlights to be on. So, I really want this to be on.

Troubleshooting

I've already verified that I don't have any Windows Update pending. Windows Search itself works fine, and indexing is up-to-date.

To turn off windows updates in windows 7 follow these steps:

Click the start button, in the search box type in 'windows updates', click on 'windows update'
in the search results list, in the left side of the windows update window click 'change settings'
then in the option bar select 'Never check for updates'.
