Windows 10: Windows Search Indexing keeps restarting from scratch after each reboot in Windows 11

Windows Search Indexing keeps restarting from scratch after each reboot in Windows 11. Very frustrating because I can't search for anything and it slows down the computer. Is there a setting that needs to be changed? What can be done to retain the index and add new data to the index rather than rebuilding each time I reboot?

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

• Press Windows key + R.
• Type Services.msc In the search box.
• Select Windows Search
• Restart the services and set the service as Automatic

If the issue persist try performing Rebuilding Index again.

To rebuild the index follow the steps below:

• Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
• Open Indexing Options in the Control Panel.
  
• Select the Advanced button in the Indexing Options window.
• Select Rebuild in the Troubleshooting section of the Advanced Options window.
• Select OK when it asks if you’re sure you want to re-build the search index.

Windows 11 Windows Search not searching or Indexing PDFs

Brand new Dell XPS laptop with Windows 11. It will not search text within PDF files. From looking on the internet seems like there are lots of problems Windows Search in Windows 11 which did not exist in Windows 10. Including not searching/indexing contents of PDF files, which is critical for me.

Has ANYONE been able to search within PDF files on Windows 11?

Please don't suggest re-indexing, have done 6 or 7 times. And, yes indexing settings are set to index contents of PDF files.

 

Windows 10 indexing / search

Since the Index is initially working, we suggest setting up startup options and restarting Windows search by following the steps below:

• Open the Run window by pressing Windows key + R button.
• Type services.msc into the Run field and hit enter or click
  OK.
• Look for Windows Search and right-click on it and select
  Properties.
• Click on the dropdown menu next to Startup type:.
• Select Automatic (Delayed Start) or Automatic depending on your preference.
• Click Apply and then OK.
• Right-click on Windows Search again and select Restart.
