Windows 10: Windows search is not working

Windows search and apps photos, media player, films & tv and snip & sketch do not work. After few minutes of trying to open a file the message " the file is write protected" is displayed. I had to change all default apps to third party apps and they have no problem opening any file.Coming to search, the cursor is visible but no amount of typing does anything.Snip and sketch just displays its logo and nothing ever happens. It's precursor snipping tool is no longer available, or if it is, I can't find it as search is not working either.I uninstalled updates from 2024 to see if it were an

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

Method 1:

I suggest you to run the search and indexing troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

  Right click on the Start button and click on
  Control Panel.

  Click on the Indexing Options.
  
• 
  Click on the Troubleshoot search and indexing.
  

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 2:

I suggest you to start the Windows Search Service.

Follow the below steps:

    Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.
    
  • 
    Type services.msc and hit Enter.
    
  • 
    Search for Windows Search.
    
  • 
    Double click on Windows Search and click on
    Start button.
    
  • 
    Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to
    Automatic.
    

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 3:

I suggest you to manually select the location in the Indexing options and check.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Right click on the Start button and select
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on Indexing Options and click on
  Modify button.
  
• 
  Under Change selected locations check mark all the locations.
  
• 
  Click on Ok and check if it works.

Search service not working (windows 10 pro)

My search service does not work at all - the reason seems to be "wrong data directory permissions". I tried all of the above methods without success.
