Windows 10: Windows search stop working after sleep and wake up

When the windows goes to sleep and wake up later the start search stop working and need to restart the windows.

After restart the search works normal.


Is there anyway to make it works without restart?

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

• Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the command line below:

Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

Windows Search Stops Working after Sleep/Wake Cycle (since Anniversary Update)

Ever since the Anniversary Update, whenever my Surface Pro 4/Win 10 Pro sleeps and then wakes up, the windows search function stops working. Here's what I mean:

Before:

• Press the "Windows" key on the keyboard
• Start menu appears
• Start typing "outl"
• Search results appear dynamically, and I can just press "Enter" to open "Outlook"

After:

• Press the "Windows" key on the keyboard
• Start menu appears
• Type "O"
• Start menu turns completely black
• Type "u"
• Start menu disappears

I have tried the following fixes, but nothing has worked:

• sfc /scannow
• Create a new account
• Delete and re-create the search index in Control Panel -> Indexing Options
• Re-start the Windows Search Service (WSearch)
• Re-start the Cortana processes (Cortana and Cortana Background Task Host)
• Re-Register the Cortana app

  -DisableDevelopmentMode

How I Fixed It

In the end, restarting the "Windows Explorer" process fixed this issue. But why should I have to do that every time I come out of sleep or hibernation? How do I report this bug to Microsoft?
