Windows 10: Windows 'Secure folders' is restricted for me

Running a less than 10 hour new 100% fresh install of Win 11 Pro - all updated.I went through "Windows Security" and set up a few things, and suddenly remembered also to check the 'Secure folders' - but somehow, without beeing there ... trying to access it, Windows told me my admin ... aka me, has restricted it ... So that means I cannot activated the 'secure folders'-thing.I found : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/defender-endpoint/enable-controlled-folders and this ps-command: Set-MpPreference -EnableControlledFolderAccess EnabledDoesn't change anything.

Windows folder security.

Is there a way to disable ALL windows security on folders? I'm using Windows 7 and trying to replace some system files that may be currupt and I get the "You need permission..." bitching from Windows. I know I can take ownership of the folder through the security tab but it's getting REALLY old having to do this for each and every file and folder I'm trying to overwrite. *Bang Head :banghead:

I'm the administrator for christ sake. If I want to open my drive and take a crap in it, do I need permission from Microsoft?

If you are the only administrator account using this computer, but still wish to restrict yourself from changing folder security settings, you can try the following method:

1. Right-click on the "User" folder, select "Properties" > "Security" tab > "Advanced".
   
2. In the "Advanced Security Settings" dialog box, click "Disable inheritance" and select "Remove all inherited permission entries from this object".
   
3. In the pop-up prompt, select "Remove".
   
4. Back in the "Advanced Security Settings" dialog box, select your administrator account and remove all the permissions you wish to remove.
   

This way, even as an administrator account, you won't be able to change the folder's security options. If you need to change permissions, use another administrator account to make changes or remove this restriction.

This method may not be exactly what you expect, as you may not be able to access many files, but there is indeed no better way to do it unless you use third-party tools or manage your account's permissions through another administrator account.

 

Want to restrict standard user account to share any folder and sub-files, but admin account can share that folder and sub-files.

Till now I have used :- ( I'm Using Windows 11 pro edition )

Create a New User Group:

• In the Local Users and Groups window, right-click on "Groups" and select "New Group."
  
• Name the group (e.g., "RestrictedUsers") and click "Create."
  

1. Assign Permissions to the Folder:
   
   • Navigate to the folder you want to restrict in File Explorer.
     
   • Right-click on the folder, select "Properties," and go to the "Security" tab.
     
2. Remove Sharing Permissions for Standard Users:
   
   • In the Security tab, click on "Edit" or "Advanced" to modify permissions.
     
   • Select the standard user group (e.g., "Users") from the list and click "Remove" to revoke sharing permissions.
     
   • Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.
     
3. Add Standard Users to the Restricted Group:
   
   • In the Local Users and Groups window (lusrmgr.msc), double-click on the group you created (e.g., "RestrictedUsers").
     
   • Click "Add" and add the standard user accounts you want to restrict from sharing.
     
   • Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.
     

Is there any other alternate method to restrict the standard account to share file-folder?
