Windows 10: Windows Security Monthly Quality Roll-up updates are huge - are they necessary?

Hi,I have an old MS Surface that runs Windows 8.1 OS. It has a 54 GB SSD hard drive. It's a back-up tablet that I use for browsing and a few office functions. I don't need it for high power computing.Every month I get the subject roll-up updates and the others through Windows Update, which I usually install. As I understand it, this roll-up contains all previous security updates. Each file is at least 1/2 GB or more. The problem is I am slowly running out of hard drive space. I barely have any personal files on the computer, nor any added programs other than Office 365. Do i need to keep the

Windows 7 Security Quality only update VS Monthly Rollup

Dear Experts,

I just did some research among the forum , however just want to get some confirmation that the differentiate between the Security Only update & Monthly Roll-up.

My understanding (Example):

1. The Security Only Quality Update for October was superseded by the October's Monthly Roll-up.

2. The Security Only Quality Update for October was also superseded by the November/December's Monthly Roll-up.

Question Here,

1. Is this means any of the later Month Roll-up will continuous superseded October's Security Only Quality Update?

2. Is November/December's Security only Quality Update superseded October's Security
only Quality Update?

Would appreciate if any clear explanation or any latest URL from Microsoft regards to this.

 

Windows Update fails to install Security Monthly Quality Rollup

Hello,

I found the same problem here.

Problably the problem is related to IE11 updates.

The only way that i found to fix it was:

1 - Uninstall Internet Explorer 11;

2 - Reboot computer;

3 - Install Security Monthly Quality Rollup update KB4457144;

4 - Reboot computer;

5 - Install Internet Explorer 11;

6 - ReInstall Security Monthly Quality Rollup update KB4457144; problably this step is necessary because when you install KB4457144 without IE11 the windows doesnt install updates related to IE11 then you need to reinstall this KB after you reinstall IE11.

7 - Reboot computer;

If anyone found another solution please share with us.

None of my Security Monthly Quality Roll Ups for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit based system (KB4103718)

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. All that you suggested I have performed prior to my posting and performed all of your suggestions again. Sorry to say that None of my Security Monthly Quality Roll
Ups for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit based system will install. Microsoft advises me in my tray that I have updates to install. All other updates install with the exception of the Monthly Security Quality Roll Ups for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. My wife's computer
required a new motherboard (AROCK), and a new power supply. OEM Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit was reinstalled. Hundreds of updates installed with the exception of the above.

I sincerely appreciate all of your support. I actually give up with the monthly quality roll up. I spend fourteen hours per day supporting third world medical doctors, plus maintain my wife's computers being that she hates computers but needs them, being
she is also a Volunteer Medical Doctor. I am out of the country when I am invited by other countries to treat their poor for free. I will close out my support question, being I have no more time to waste when all other updates download and install.
