Windows 10: Windows Security Protection History - no actions available

I have entries in Protection History with the title "Remediation incomplete". However there are no actions available. There is a Learn More link that takes me to a web page.The "infected" file is a well-known sample used to validate anti-virus functionality https://eicar.org. It does not perform any malicious activity. I want to test uploading this file to some cloud platforms. However, Windows Security doesn't give me the option of releasing the file from quarantine. I've tried configuring it as an allowed threat, but it is still getting quarantined.Suggestions?

Clear Windows Security Center (Defender) Protection History

Did not work for me. After going through all steps I still have protection history full

hello, I have windows 10, for several months windows security protection history in says "no recent actions". Even when I have a PUP alert, or a folder access blocked notification that clearly requires my action.

I have the following steps to no avail. can anyone please help?

Step 1:

1-Right-click on Start and click on Run

2-Type: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History and click on OK

3-Open the Service folder, select all files inside it and delete them

4-Close the file explorer



Step 2:

1-Click on Start, search for Windows Security, and click on that

2-Click on Virus & Threat protection then click on Manage settings

3-Toggle the button to Off and then to On again, for Real-Time protection and Cloud-delivered protection



If the problem persists, you can use this procedure to re-register the Windows Defender.

1-Right-click on Start then click on Windows PowerShell(admin)

2-Paste this command and press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage

3-When the process is finished, close the PowerShell and reboot your PC

4-Right-click on Start then click on Windows PowerShell(admin)

5-Paste this command and press Enter:

Add-AppxPackage -Register -DisableDevelopmentMode "C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.SecHealthUI_cw5n1h2txyewy\AppXManifest.xml"

6-When the process is finished, close the PowerShell

7-Reboot your PC and check if the problem is fixed

 

Protection History shows "No recent actions"

The normal behaviour is to initially open with the "No recent actions" heading then, after no more than a second (presumably while it scans its records) that changes to a list of previous actions. The window should not close on its own. That, and the hourglass when its should be reading its records, suggest that its record of past actions is corrupted.


In older versions of Defender there was a button to clear the history, but that was removed some time ago. You could try this method of cleaning out your protection history and see if it starts working again. You should probably also run a Chkdsk on your drive in case there is other corruption. SFC /Scannow wouldn't be a bad idea either.

It definitely works. This is the procedure that does indeed work.
I previously had tried deleting the folder before with no success but turning off, then on said protections is what apparently allows this to work. Thank you and the OP "LiNer2" from windows forum for this.

To anyone who wishes to try this and you don't happen to have any current protection history...
