Windows 10: Windows Security & Updates broken Second time

So I'm having some issues with Windows at the moment, the weird thing is that I had these exact same issues in July, and the only way I could fix them was to completely reinstall windows, now a few months later I am facing theexact same issues once again. Very strange.


The issue is that windows defender appears to be completely broken, the security window appears as empty and never loads.

And the other issue is that the updates window is broken and cannot check for updates.

I had these exact same issues in July, couldn't fix them then, did a complete reinstall, not long later I have the exact same issues again, and once again they cannot be fixed.


So because this issue is recurring across installs I figured it must be something wrong with my hard drive, maybe it has some bad sectors and Windows is suffering because of that, but I just finished the lengthy chkdsk routine and it has come back clean! So I have no idea what the issue could be, must be something wrong with windows...

Yes I've tried everything online, sfc, DISM, WinRE, nothing works.

The only thing I haven't tried is updating, because it doesnt work, and restarting the service, because the services tool doesnt allow me to:




I am willing to provide whatever you ask, anything at all, to help find the cause of this issue, even if it doesnt lead to a fix, and I have to reinstall once again, I just want it to not happen again.


According to the update window I am on OS Build 19041.630 and version 2004. Let me know if any other information will be useful.

Windows 7 Ultimate (64) Security updates not installing.

I have been having problems in installing the updates that I have listed below. For each update I attempted to install them individually but they would not install. I also downloaded the SURT 6.1 KB947821 v27. The problem has been going on now for about 2 months. (whenever the issue with the updates comes to mind I am never near my pc). Thank you in advance.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

When in win10:

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.
