  1. Windows seem to delete programs installed on the boot drive on its own after Windows Update

In shortWith the installation of "2024-05 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems" on Windows 11 Pro I started experiencing a problem where sometimes an application installed in its default folder was automatically removed from the OS and File System without my approval or interaction. This seems to be tied to the Windows Update process and/or the cleanup of old Windows backups the Windows.old folder.First IncidentAround June 4th, 2024 when I tried to play a video with VLC which has been my default Video Player for the past 10+ years it just opened in th

C windows installer folder - Delete?

He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink Windows seem to delete programs installed on the boot drive on its own after Windows Update ;)
Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

    Like:
First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
    Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
Then type this in command mode as admin
    mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.

  3. Windows 7 booting off wrong drive?!?!?

Please move if this is in the wrong place.

I have two hard drives, a 1.5TB drive, and a 160GB drive. Windows is installed on the 1.5TB drive, as are all my files and programs. The 160GB drive has a bunch of old files, and apparently the bootmgr and boot folder. Nothing else is on the 160GB drive, other than media files etc.

If I remove the 160GB drive from the machine, windows refuses to boot, plug it back in, it works fine. The setup with two hard drives I have now is temporary, as the 160GB drive will go into another machine.

My question is, can someone give me a step by step on how to make windows force to boot off the 1.5TB drive, ignoring the 160GB drive in the boot process completely?
I don't know how to do this in Windows 7, on XP I would just run the /fixmbr command and its related ones.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Note: I would really really rather not have to wipe and reinstall, I know it can be done without one as I've had this issue with XP before.
