Windows 10: Windows Setup On thumb drive only works 1 Time. Then have re-download Media Creation Tool...

I have a thumb drive that I use for installing Windows 10 and another for Windows 11. When installing using either I find that it only installs one time and then I have to re-download a second time to install a second time. The first time it installs the drive controller drivers automatically and detects the disk to install onto. Any subsequent attempt and I have to try and chase down the correct driver to be able to see the disk. Since I install Windows for a living, it's absolutely frustrating. I can't be the only person experiencing this. Does anyone have an idea what the heck is goin

No, but this is not the partition that I'm talking about. I used Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to create an installation partition on a thumb drive. That partition was used to update my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Anniversary on my PC. Now I can only access
the installation partition with the setup files on my thumb drive. There's an old partition with al my data on the thumb drive, but I can't access it. I would like to be able to access it to retrieve my data.

The thumb drive might be too space, you need at least an 8 GB thumb drive; especially if you are downloading multiple editions (Home, Pro) and architectures (32, 64 bit).

You can try downloading the ISO file directly, then create a bootable copy using Rufus:

Windows 10 Media Creation Tool 1909 sticks at 80% downloading.

I realized that the disk I have is a pretty old version of windows 10. I downloaded the current Media Creation Tool.

My steps

1. downloaded tool from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
2. opened the download
3. accepted the terms of use
4. Selected "Create installation media"
5. Selected , English, Windows 10, 64-bit
6. Selected USB flash drive
7. Selected formatted 16gb flash drive
8. Sticks at "Progress 80%" and does not proceed, I have tried 2 times and have waited overnight one of the two attempts.

Any guidance would be appreciated.
