  1. Windows sign-in: LogonUI.exe - Application Error

I am using HP dm4 laptop pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Edition.
I have upgraded to Windows 10 Home edition as part of the upgrade during Windows 10 release around august. After the windows 10 upgrade my HDMI was not working.
I used to connect my laptop to Sony TV which was not working after the upgrade.

    Apart from that no issues.

Suddenly today when i switched on my laptop, getting the below error:

    Windows sign-in: LogonUI.exe - Application Error

The instruction at 0x0000000000000000 refeenced memory at 0x0000000000000000. The memory could not be written.

I tried to login with safe mode, but couldn't login. Then i have downloaded the USB windows 10 bootable disc and followed the below instruction to enter safe mode which is not success.

Using the windows 10 bootable disc, there is option to install the windows 10, but it is asking for product key which i entered the valid windows 7 product key (pre-installed windows) sticked back of my laptop was not verified.

Do i need to install windows 7 first? Please advice.

Also, i have ran HP system diagonistic for START UP TEST (memory test - PASSED, SMART check - PASSED, optmized DST - PASSED, BatteryTest - FAILED)

Hard Disk Test (SMART check - PASSED, short DST - PASSED, long DST - PASSED)

    Memory Test - PASSED

    :)

  3. windows sign-in: LogonUI.ex-Application Error

    Hi Hokkyo,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

The "LogonUI" application in Windows manages your startup and shutdown graphical user interface (GUI), which shows the Windows logo on your screen and the status of your shutdown. It also displays the login screen that you see when you first
start up the PC. A corruption in this application might lead to problems booting up and shutting down, such as freezing.

I would suggest you to download the media creation tool to install windows 10 and create Windows 10 installation DVD media and try Repairing your Computer.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Create installation media for windows 10.

      Refer to the below link:

      Windows 10 herunterladen

    • Insert the Windows 10 installation DVD in the DVD ROM and restart your computer.

    • After you boot your computer using Windows DVD or System Repair Disc, a black screen appears with gray text "Press any key to boot from DVD". Press any key.

    • Select the correct time and Keyboard type.

    • Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.
    • Follow the on screen instruction.

Hope it helps, reply to us with the status of your issue. We will be happy to assist you.

Using the Windows 10 DVD, select Repair this computer. This will try to repair startup. If it succeeds you will be prompted to restart and test it. If it doesn't you can then proceed with the more advanced troubleshooting options. Select System Restore and try to return to a working restore point. If the most recent fails, try the previous one.

    That doesn't work.

And System Restore is very old.

Yes, but I would rather return to an old restore point and do again any updates and changes since then, than do a clean install!
