Windows 10: Windows Spotlight Forcing Lock Screen Picture On Boot

Basically I have a lock screen of my preference (a picture of my lazy cat sleeping, please don't judge me), I set it up months ago and it was cool and I was really happy.


Somewhere around a week ago I made the big mistake of selecting that spotlight thing, because I was curious to see what it was about (I forgot to google Bing it). I got some hideous image (or maybe not that hideous, I just didn't like it at all), so I switched back to my lazy cat's picture and I was happy again. The problem now is that every single time I boot my laptop, whether it is a reboot, switch users, log out, or just shut down and turn it on, the first thing I see is that mostly hideous spotlight picture and not my lazy sleeping cat's picture.


If I'm already loged in and I lock my screen, then I do see my cat's picture. It's only on boot that I see the ugly spotlight picture. This depresses me a lot Well, not really, but it is a very annoying behavior. Is there any way to fix it?


I'm using Windows 10 Home.

Windows Spotlight on the lock screen

There are multiple causes on why you're encountering this issue. To further troubleshoot the issue, we suggest that you disable and re-enable Spotlight. Simply follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the desktop and open Personalize.
• Open Lock Screen tab.
• Under Background, switch from Windows Spotlight to a Picture or the Slideshow.
• Click OK and close the Window.
• Now Log off and log in.
• Navigate to Lock screen and enable Windows Spotlight again.

Lock screen stuck on picture. I chose the Windows Spotlight option.

Try these steps:

• In Personalization->Lock Screen settings change Background to Picture.
• Delete everything from folder
  
  C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_<somecharacters>\Settings
• In Personalization->Lock Screen settings change Background back to Windows Spotlight

Hi, after many attempts, I got Spotlight back up and running. 'Like what you see' had disappeared, and the image wasn't changing when Spotlight was selected.

I'm not sure which of this sequence proved effective. Maybe some combination.

Note:
1. Spotlight worked in another account if I switched to it.
2. Deleting all images (they are jpg's with no extension) in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assetsdid not solve the problem but the folder was repopulated when I enabled Spotlight. (Some report this not happening).

3. Simply switching to Picture from Spotlight, and back again and trying the Lock screen did not help
4. Re-registering all apps for the current account as suggested in one post did not help. (Note- there's no specific registration instruction related to Spotlight in the tutorial list).

5. What worked? Finally, I made a random decision to 'Choose an app to show detailed status' (on the lock screen). I chose Weather.
This worked.

What stopped it working? I think possibly disabling the lock screen using Winaero's tweaker, then enabling it again.
