  3. can wpa or wpa-2 be added to an existing network

    Hi Charles,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per the description, I understand that you have a query.

I would like to know some information.

    • When you say WPA or Wpa 2 are you referring to Wi-Fi protected access?

    • Are you referring to set up a security key for a wireless network?

I would suggest you to refer to the Microsoft Help Article given below and check if that helps.

    Windows help and learning

Note: Holds Good For Windows 10.

Hope this information helps. Please let us know if you need any other assistance with Windows in future. We will be happy to assist you.

How to optimize windows10 - XP still seems faster

Initially I understood the period in question was the boot time. Actually it's the time to stable desktop- after login, and to when the task manager shows little resource usage, if I now understand correctly.

Therefore I recommended the WPA. Whilst it could be used to analyse activity in a time period, I would now suggest the first thing to do - if it's not been suggested already- is to compare the time from login to 'desktop' for
    a. normal boot
    b. clean boot

If that shows no significant difference, then further startups could be disabled using Autoruns (free from MS).

However, the analytical approach may still be needed- using the WPA is non-trivial. Here's a guide I've just foudn for someone else who said they didn't know where to start:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...-by-step-guide

Not that I'm saying it's easy- there's quite a learning curve. Example threads and screenshots can be found on tenforums.
