Windows 10: windows stopped connecting to my external dvd player

My Lenovo 910 laptop running Win10 Build 18362.592 stopped connecting to my external Dell 316 CD player. The player shows up in the Device Manager and checking its property shows the error "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. Code 38". How can I fix this problem?

You are right about the connection, that was the problem, but I found a way around that so the issue is not the external dvd player now.

The issue is where to find the generic driver I deleted, which I am not sure of the exact name of the file, and despite a long search on the microsoft website it wasn't in any of the lists I checked. I deleted it as that was what was suggested to fix
the dvd problem, but as it's plug and play, it was the wrong thing to do anyway as it could see a different external drive.

Obviously this driver file is not needed for what I am doing now, but I want to reinstall it, in case I need it in the future

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the driver

I suggest you to try uninstall the DVD drive drivers check if it works for you. Follow the steps to uninstall the DVD drive drivers:

• Press Windows Key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Right-click on the DVD drive listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Try to access the device manufacturer's website and download and install the latest chipset drivers.
