Windows stopped recognizing my TV as HDR compatible, is there a fix?

So I've had the same set up for some time and have used my TV to game in HDR on occasion some point in the last few months windows stopped seeing it as an HDR display and I can't enable HDR anymore. My hardware has not changed as all being the following:

    [ TV- TCL 55R615, GPU- RTX 2080, CPU- i7 8700k,HDMI cable- Amazon Basics Nylon-Braided 4K 18Gbps HDMI to HDMI Cable 15 Feet ]

This setup has worked fine as long as I've had it until recently and the only things I've changed we're updating windows and Nvidia drivers.

I have updated Nvidia drivers to the latest and still get the issue and rolled back to a known working driver and it still doesn't work this tells me its a windows problem. Attached is a screenshot with OS info

So my question is there any way to fix this? Is this a known issue? should I just wait and hope for the next windows update to fix?

Any help is really appreciated, thank you for anyone's time who reads.

Windows 10 HDR not available on capable PC and SONY TV XBR55X800E

Hello, I am sorry to hear that you are having some issues using HDR for Windows 10. You will first need to enable the HDR mode for your TV. This depends on what kind of TV you have, but it should be easy switching to HDR mode. Once switched into the HDR,
you will need to connect the PC to the TV via HDMI or display cable. If the image is recognized, you are able to access the HDR settings from your Display Settings.

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have further questions!

  3. HDR won't enable!

I have the exact same issue. I'm running a Corsair One with a GTX 1080. I know my TV can output HDR but for some reason any time I turn it on, it immediately toggles back off.

There is no error message that occurs and when I run the Direct X Diagnostic Tool (Recommended by Microsoft here: HDR and WCG color settings in Windows 10), there is no actual value for HDR. The "HDR Support"
value simply isn't in that text file. It does not say "Yes" or "No" as there is no option whatsoever.

I have verified all of my drivers are installed correctly and ensured that I'm using HDR compatible HDMI cables and an HDR compatible TV (Samsung KS8500). There's no visible reason as to why this problem is occuring, but it absolutely is.

Update: I enrolled my PC in the Windows Insiders Program and now when I run the Diagnostic Tool, I do have a listing for "HDR Support: Yes" but when trying to turn on HDR support, the setting still toggles back off.

  4. Windows stopped recognizing my TV as HDR compatible, is there a fix?

Wndows does not detect HDR tv (10Bit)

    Hello ,

Windows is not detecting my 10-bit HDR tv but is instead showing 8-Bit.

To be clear , HDR works with my PS4 and VIA home network streaming.

But windows doesn't seem to detect it as an HDR TV.

    OS: Windows 10

    Graphics : INTEL UHD 620

    TV: TCL 55P6US

    Appreciate your support.

    Thanks.
