Windows Store - Autostart on Boot or not?

I have two Windows 10 systems. One is a clean install (Nvidia GPUs) and one is an upgraded 8.0 to 8.1 install (Intel based graphics). On the clean install, the Windows Store opens on every boot and stays open. On the upgraded install, the Windows Store does not open.

When I say open, I mean it shows in Task Manager or shows as WWAHost.exe in msinfo32.exe in the running tasks section. The Store seems to go into a "suspended" state if the actual Store app is not open. If you open then close the Store app, the Store entry in Task Manager does go away.

Since this might be related to a video situation, does anyone know what might explain the behavioral difference between the two systems?

I thought I found the store would not start if I turned off the App auto update, but it does not.

    :)

    Hi,

The change that you mentioned is a new functionality in Windows 10. To learn more about it, kindly refer to the reply of
Microsoft Support Engineer Jason[MS] last August 19, 2017 in this thread:

Programs autostart after boot in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

I wonder if this is due to the forced updates with the preview (system updates cannot be disabled so could be linked to the apps also)
Clean install has never seen 8 so updates cannot be disabled (even if it says they are)
The upgrade picked up that it had been disabled in 8 so just kept this

    Just my thoughts

Hi there. Types of accounts on both systems come to mind. Are they the same?

I believe in 8.1 that Store apps will update no matter what WU is set at. In 8 it would show on the Store tile whether or not apps needed updating. Whether or not they changed that with time I wouldn't know. I'm assuming in 10 it's the same as 8.1. Haven't had the chance to install 10 due to PSU problem which the new one is on the way.

Both systems run using a Local Account. I have only downloaded a couple of free apps from the store in the last two years.

I heard about not being able to disable Windows Updates, and on both systems that option is greyed out with the Update Automatically option shown.

The only difference I see is I did not have the "get updates for other Microsoft products" enabled, so I have changed that to agree with the other one, not really sure if that will make a difference but will know more later.

But all I can guess is there is some setting on a Windows 8 install which is not changed to cause the Store to Start. Since the Store App never opens, it is sort of a covert operation, or maybe a bug since it seems involved with the Nvidia problem.

    Thanks all...

(I rearranged the quoted sentences here for subject's sake)

What makes you state that it's "related to a video situation"?

I would think it would be the other way around since I'm assuming you installed the apps on the 8/8.1 machine. Was it a live account then?

Which system did you set up first? Settings, app info, Start Screen arrangement, etc. are stored in OneDrive. It might be that the first system set up connects with that info. Not sure.

This only pertains to drivers for others peripherals/products such as you graphics card, mouse, etc.

    You're welcome. *Smile

Windows Store - Autostart on Boot or not?

The reason it might be related to a video problem, and I have another thread concerning this, is the Nvidia Control Panel will not make changes because it thinks the "Store" is open even though the App is not open.

Therefore, I am trying to determine if the Task Manager shows a Store entry after boot on everyone's system, or just a few to see if I can find commonalities. I don't think I yet have an answer on that front, so maybe someone could state whether or not the Store process is started in Task manager on their system during boot so I could tell which one of my systems seems to behaving normally.

Still trying to do some troubleshooting before Nvidia or Microsoft offer me a lot of money to solve the problem..*Wink

    Thanks...

Lol! Don't hold your breath on the money! *Tongue

Ok. I read your other thread. Strange that Nvidia CP is reporting that your Store app is open even when Task Manager says it's not, although it may be tied to a service. Which one I wouldn't know either. Not that advanced.

    Good luck to you!

@HippsieGypsie, could you please check and see if the Store icon is showing in Task Manager after you boot. I just need to know if it is or if it isn't...

    Thanks..

I would, but my PC is down with a faulty PSU. One coming soon. Barrowing my daughters W7 lappy in the mean time.

    Hopefully someone will answer.

I believe I found an answer. I did an upgrade install on the system with the Nvidia cards. The "Store" is not showing in Task Manager and the Nvidia Control panel behaves normally....

So I would have to believe the Graphics problem mentioned only occurs on Clean installs.
