  2. Windows Store and Settings apps keeps opening up in the middle of things

    Hi,

Every time I leave my computer alone, while it's turned off, the Windows Store and the Settings apps keep popping up in my screen in the middle of things. I looked up for the solution to the problem and it suggested to run the Microsoft Windows Safety Scanner,
which I did. Then the it returned saying that no malware was detected. I am pretty sure there's some type of virus that's making these apps opening up without my knowledge.

Is there a process, scheduled task, or something that I can terminate to stop these apps from opening up without my knowledge?

    I'm running Windows 10

    Thanks.

It looks like there is an e-Book reader that comes up in a search. The only other thing I can think of, is you may have gotten some paid media content and the store was downloading the DRM license for it.

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management

I didn't download any media and I didn't download media content. I downloaded one app and it was the Fitbit app. Not very happy about mystery apps being installed on my computer. If that's the case I'll never open the windows App Store ever again.

DRM is not always used only for media, it can also be used for apps.

Correct. It will be used to "acquire rights" whenever you download an app as well.

The thing is this mystery app, after it downloaded, is nowhere to be found on my computer.

Even if you download a free app, you still need the Store to acquire the rights for you to download/own it.

This statement found on the Fitbit site suggests that DRM is indeed involved with their product:

I don't think you are seeing the issue.

    1) apps that download that don't appear on my computer

    2) something was downloaded but it didn't tell me or give me a choice

If this is the "norm" for windows then the only apps I download will be on my iPhone and I won't visit the MS Store. I seriously doubt I'm the only person who will feel that way.

The X-Box games in the store all have drm. Hell I have iPhone and iPad apps that use it, it's how they make sure you can't use pirated versions of their apps. It's use has become more frequent these last few years.

If the Fitbit app uses a DRM protection, then you agreed to install it when you downloaded it. It's for your protection as much as theirs, especially if that app stores personal information.

again you are missing the point. I have a iPhone and a iPad and never once did the App Store download a app that I didn't agree to nor did it download a app that I couldn't find on my device. Plus since when is a drm a "app"?

I agree that I would not want unknown apps downloading into my system, but a drm is not an app, it's a set of rights. It's part of the app. And, you won't see the DRM downloads on an iDevice, unless you jailbreak and install a tweak that uses it, you will see it download into your device and then it will respring. But If you buy an app like ProTube, it's installed with the app. The drm for Fitbit should have installed with Fitbit, but for some reason you saw it (being installed).

You won't find it on your computer because it's encrypted content and probably stored in C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Packages. But mainly it says that you downloaded it on your PC and you are using it, it's uniquely paired with your store account so that nobody else can use it.

Look I'm on your side, I would not want malware either. But this is not Malware, malware does not load through the Store. as drm is for your safety. So you can drop the hostility. Later, I'm outta here.

Hell if you think you have a virus, you can download a trial of NOD32 and check, if it was a virus, NOD will find it.
