Windows 10: Windows store not working while running on a vpn & ticking client for microsoft networks...

Hello all. The original topic was locked, so this is the only way I can provide this fix.

I found that windows 10 metro apps/services such as, the windows store, outlook, windows update etc. do not seem to think that there is an internet connection when using the PIA (Privet internet access) VPN. The fix in the forums for this VPN problem was to tick the "Client for Microsoft networks" box in my VPN's TAP device properties, but unfortunately, this did not work for me. However, I have managed to fix the problem, and this is what I did that worked for my situation.


Go to: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

Right-click the TAP network device for your VPN.
Go to properties.
Click Configure.
click the Advanced tab

Select "Media Status"
Change Value to "Always connected"
Click ok.

Right-click the TAP network device for your VPN again.
Go to properties.
Click "internet services version 4 (TCP/IPv4)"
Click Properties.
Click Advanced.
Tick the "Automatic Metric" boxClick ok.

Click ok.
Click Close.

Your Windows 10 / Microsoft Metro app services should now have an internet connection.

How to get on internal network to VPN to a client


I am looking for ways besides RDP to have employees connect to my work's internal network at another location so that they can VPN to one of their client's. The VPN connection only works from the internal network as their Sonicwall configuration is setup to allow it through IP's on my work's network.
Any third-party apps, Windows settings, or other suggestions are welcomed.
One suggestion by a friend was to use Cendio, an open source Linux remote desktop server.

Here is a screenshot of the error I get when trying to access the Windows Store while the VPN is running. .





Other than installing the VPN software, no major changes were made.

As far as troubleshooting steps.....There were a few. It took a while to figure out the VPN/Windows Store connection.

• Searched for the error code. Google and Bing.
• Ran the troubleshooter which found the Store cache was corrupt. Repair didn't work.
• Posted a question in the community without results
• Contacted MS support and gave the tech access and he made some changes that appeared to have worked. (The VPN had not launched prior to testing after the restart)
• More searches and more dead ends.
• I wanted to check something out in Edge one day and I noticed it was running smooth and glitch free. I clicked the Store icon and just like magic is popped open. I then noticed the VPN wasn't connected. That was kinda the eureka moment for me. All three
  PC's do the same thing. VPN on, no Store. VPN off, Store works fine.

The issue seems to be isolated to just the Store app. I chatted with a guy who was having the same issue and used a different VPN provider so it's not isolated to one.
